Most Lights Cast a Shadow
Most lights cast a shadow.
In winter, these shadows are cold
and we rush to get out of them.
In summer, they offer a welcome break from the sun’s intensity.
Most lights cast a shadow.
We only see them in contrast to things that don’t shine.
We only notice them as they brighten a darkness.
We only feel them as they warm up a void.
Most lights cast a shadow.
They create contrasts,
allow us to distinguish shapes,
make clear what is there.
Except when they don’t.
Most lights cast a shadow,
concealing what lies outside their glow,
drawing your attention to their beams,
hiding what’s less appealing, or so it seems.
Most lights cast a shadow.
